Professor Dr. Nevzat Tarhan describes the California Syndrome in these terms: These people move to starvation, while others die of hunger and do not feel any anxiety about people other than themselves. Self-admiration carries narcissistic tendencies that can be called ego fetishism. Things that give me pleasure are good, things that don't give pleasure are bad, and they change in their good-right values.
Global capitalism has created a generation that adopts their own sense of value. The mindset trying to sell these evacuated values to individuals and societies by emptying the values of freedom, democracy, peace, love, unfortunately, has come a long way on the note of reaching its goal. Kaliornia Syndrome, which has recently been described with different definitions, is in fact a problem that reflects the character of the capitalist groups. There are three signs of this: pleasure, selfishness and loneliness.
Loneliness, selfishness and indulgence. These three problems are not only in Western societies, but also among the problems that Muslim peoples are exposed to. These people who build their dreams on money and positions do not have the opportunity to develop values such as empathy, compassion and sharing. Modern individuals, who have a focused perspective, are becoming more and more impoverished in the spiritual sphere every day while sanctifying material-oriented imagination and goals. Because spiritual wealth, faith, violation and sharing is a value to be realized.
Adler, who is closely acquainted with Western society, uses the following remarks:
Today, the problem of isolation has become a chronic problem of our age. The number of people who say that they feel lonely in a research conducted in America, fed by blood and resources of innocent peoples, exceeds 50%. The fact that most of the individuals living alone and isolated are over the age of five years shows the painful consequences of the destroyed values. The global culture assumes autonomy, individuality, and universal values that bring together individuals. Individuals living in individual cells are becoming selfish and perceiving the other as a danger, not as a brother.
According to a study conducted at the University of Chicago, children growing up alone carry the risk of developing various diseases more than others after 20 years. Isolated adults suffer from problems such as sleep problems, heart attack risk, stress and anxiety disorders.
As I said at the beginning, the capitalist ideology tried to create a human prototype that was in line with its expectations in order to survive. As a result, spiritual diseases grew like an avalanche. So, what can we do? We cannot overcome this problem unless we stay in the way of Allah.
