Fenerbahce defeated Strum Graz 2-1 in Austria on Thursday evening after grabbing the momentum in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first-leg matchup.
The Turkish club started the match poorly and conceded a goal in only the 10th minute, when midfielder Stefan Hierlander beat goalkeeper Volkan Demirel to give Sturm Graz the opener.
But Fenerbahce managed to recover within the first half, as Maresic's own goal levelled the game in the 29th minute, and defender Roman Neustädter headed the game-winner for the Yellow Canaries only six minutes later.
Fans in Austria saw no goals in the second half, as Fenerbahce held onto the advantage going into the second leg.
The second leg of the tie will be played next Tuesday, Aug. 3.
