French President Emmanuel Macron argued that the abaya (long dress) ban, which is considered "anti-Islamic" by some circles and caused controversy on the grounds that it restricts fundamental freedoms, is not to "label" anyone.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who participated in the program broadcast by YouTuber Hugo Decrypte on the Tiktok channel, made evaluations about the abaya ban, which was on the country's agenda.

Stating that they live with a minority in French society who "defy the republic and secularism" and "abuse religion", and that this situation sometimes has "very bad" results, Macron pointed to the murder of history teacher Samuel Paty in 2020.

Saying, "We cannot pretend we live in a country where the problem is resolved," Macron argued that teachers and school administrators working in the field will face pressure if they are not "clear" at the national level regarding the abaya ban.

Claiming that the ban was not to "tag" anyone, Macron expressed that he was willing to try the "uniform" dress code in schools.

MACRON'S EXPRESSIONS CAUSED REACTION

While Macron was criticized on social media for his statements regarding the abaya ban, the reaction of the politicians in the Nupes alliance, which includes left-wing parties, was not delayed.

Jerome Legavre, Member of Parliament for Unyielding France (LFI) reacted to Macrond and said, "For Emmanuel Macron, abaya-wearing girls are suspects who want to behead their teacher, is this? (Macron) What is he looking for? Making worse conflicts?"

LFI MP Louis Boyard criticized the President on the grounds that in his statements on the program, "he drew parallels between the abaya and the murder of the history teacher".

On October 16, 2020, history teacher Samuel Paty was killed in the country after he showed his students cartoons insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
