The government, which manages the economy through heroic rhetorics, loss of confidence in the markets and systems far from reality, has turned the value of the Turkish Lira (TL) into stamps during its twenty years in power. In 2002, when Justice and Development Party (AKP) came to power, citizens could buy a quarter of gold for 20 TL, but today, only lettuce and beans can be bought for 20 TL.
20 TL’S CHANGE IN 20 YEARS!
There is no need for major economic analysis to understand the story of the economic collapse in Turkey. For the crisis in the economy, it is enough to look at the fire in the kitchen, the decline in purchasing power, the fact that our money has turned into stamps, and even the gold-lettuce account. So much so that in 2002, when AKP was in power, a quarter of gold was bought for 20 TL, but now only a bunch of lettuce can be bought for 20 TL.
WHICH WAS BUYING GOLD IN 2002, VEGETABLES IN QUANTITY TODAY
Citizens, whose purchasing power has decreased, have difficulty in getting the food of their kitchen. The extreme depreciation of the TL and the bad course in the economy became such that 20 TL, from which a quarter of gold was bought in 2002, is difficult to buy lettuce and beans today. Many basic vegetables, such as, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. cannot be bought for 20 TL.
