The contracted teaching practice, which is known as the practice that usurps the right of the teacher in the public, continues to victimize many teachers. According to the statement made by the Minister of National Education (MEB) Mahmut Özer in November last year; There are 114 thousand contracted teachers affiliated with the ministry. However, the Ministry seems insistent on not taking a step towards improving the personal rights of contracted teachers, and not implementing the formulas that will abolish the contracted teaching practice. Gülşah Yavuz, Deputy Chairman of Eğitim-Gücü-Sen Union, made statements regarding the victimization of contracted teachers.
“WE ARE FACED WITH AN PRACTICE THAT DISTURBS THE FAMILY INTEGRITY”
Gülşah Yavuz, Deputy Chairman of Eğitim-Gücü-Sen Union, stated that under the current conditions contracted teachers are exposed to many practices that disrupt the family structure and lead to marginalization among their colleagues. “We are faced with a practice that limits the constitutional rights of teachers, disrupts family unity, and separates spouses from each other and children from their parents. The contracted teaching practice, which creates discrimination in the teachers' room and harms the profession and the reputation of the teacher, should be terminated, and contracted teachers should be appointed to the staff,” Yavuz said.
“REGULATIONS REGARDING THE PERSONAL AND SOCIAL RIGHTS OF CONTRACTED TEACHERS SHOULD BE MADE”
Stating that various arrangements should be made in the personnel and social rights of contracted teachers, “Regulations should be made regarding the personnel and social rights of contracted teachers. The right to move within the province and between the provinces should be given. Contracted teachers, like permanent teachers, need to take advantage of the excuses such as excuses of birth, death, marriage and breastfeeding leave, etc. It is also important that they are appointed as administrators to schools, and that they are given the right to take the exam for inspectorship and foreign teacher assignments. In addition to the promotion processes such as degree and seniority, It is also necessary to give the service points of permanent teachers in the regions every year,” Gülşah Yavuz added.

Drawing attention to the 52nd article of the collective agreement, titled 'Work on the employment of contracted personnel', Gülşah Yavuz said, “The work on re-determining the status of contracted personnel by taking the opinions of public institutions and organizations and making arrangements in the contracted personnel legislation will be completed in 2022 with the contribution and participation of the authorized confederation, they say. We repeat again, the contracted teaching practice should be terminated and the contracted teachers should be recruited.”
