Energy Bir-Sen Headquarters, in a letter to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, General Directorate of National Real Estate regarding the increase in rents of more than 200 thousand publicly used lodgings, stated that as of January 1, 2023, the rents of lodging expected to increase over the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and demanded that the increase in lodgings rent be included in the regulation to be limited to a maximum of 25 percent or less so that citizens do not suffer from exorbitant price increases.
“25 PERCENT LIMIT SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTED TO LODGINGS”
If the CPI is taken as a basis for the lodgings rent increase, it is predicted that the rents will increase by more than 85 percent. Energy Bir-Sen Union demands that the increase be made not on the CPI, but on the rate of 25 percent or less, which is referenced in the rent limitation application, so that public servants residing in the lodgings are not aggrieved. Inclusion of public servants in the solutions produced against the housing problem in the society Energy Bir-Sen Union Chairman Hacı Bayram Tonbul, who made statements about the need for a new home, said, “As a result of the increase in rents that were even higher than the inflation figures throughout the country last summer and the rapid growth of the housing problem, it was published in the Official Gazette on June 11, 2022 with the aim of stopping the trend. The regulation limited rent increases to 25 percent and secured the tenant citizen against landlords. We approve and support this positive regulation. As Energy Bir-Sen Union, we demand the same assurance provided to our citizens for our servants residing in the lodgings.”
“LODGINGS EXPENSES FOR SINGLE-SALARY FAMILIES AN IMPORTANT ITEM”
Underlining that lodgings are of critical economic importance especially for civil servants who receive only one salary, Tonbul said, “In today's economic conditions, the rents of our public servants to be increased by the rate of CPI, will decrease the purchasing power they are currently facing more. It will add to the rent burden on top of the loss. In line with the perspective that tries to protect our citizens not only against rent but also against all kinds of exorbitant price increases; Our public servants, who constitute an important part of the society, should also be secured within the framework of the same well-intentioned approach.”
