On the Australian decision to recognise West Jerusalem as the Israeli occupation’s capital, the Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum stated the following:
The Islamic Resistance Movement denounces Australia’s recognition of West Jerusalem as the Israeli occupation’s capital. The declaration was made by the Australian Prime minister Scott Morrison last Saturday.
Indeed, this recognition is an offense against the Palestinian people and contradicts the Australian positive stance towards the Palestinian people, especially at the level of the UN resolution.
Furthermore, the declaration will sever the bilateral relations, given that both countries have never intervened in the domestic affairs of each other. Therefore, Hamas Movement urges Australia to reverse this unfair decision and rather support the Palestinian people.
On the other hand, Hamas condemns the stance of Bahraini Foreign Minister who understated the Arab League’s stance against the Australian move, ignoring its ramifications on the Palestinian cause and people.
Finally, Hamas movement reiterates its full rejection of all forms of normalisation with the Israeli occupation adopted by whatever party or country. Normalising ties with the Israeli occupation is a stab in the back of the Palestinian people, as it legitimises the Israeli offensive policies against the Palestinian people, including killings, arrests, and forcible displacement.
