On twitter, Barhoum wrote: “We do not recognise the recommendation of the separation council (PNC), which [Mahmoud] Abbas convened.

“These recommendations do not represent the Palestinian people due to the lack of the least democratic and legal norms.”

He added: “Along with all the other factions, which are larger and stronger than those who participated in this play, we will seek protecting the national programme and defending the Palestinian cause.”

Barhoum called the PNC as the separation council which was convened by Abbas and his team to “gamble” with the fate of the PLO “in order to protect his personal interests and absurd political vision which destroyed the Palestinian cause and lunched the bullet of mercy at the effort to end the division.”

Regarding the PLO’s Executive Committee, Hamas spokesman said: “After wasting the efforts exerted to achieve the national unity, Abbas formed an executive committee that met his own desire in order to be ready to pass any liquidation projects, including the Deal of the Century, which started with the siege on Gaza, fighting resistance, prioritising security cooperation and prevention of Palestinians in the West Bank to take to the streets to protest against Trump’s decisions.”
