In a phone interview with Al-Jazeera on Tuesday, Meshaal called on President Abbas to act reasonably and lift the punitive measures imposed on Gaza.
“Amidst the pressures exerted on Abbas, he must support the popular resistance in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and the diaspora and end the security collaboration with the Israeli Occupation, as well as forming a true, national partnership to pressure the Israeli Occupation,” Meshaal added.
Appalling crimes
The former politburo leader noted that the Israeli Occupation and the United States are responsible for the crimes perpetrated on Monday, which left dozens of unarmed civilians dead and more than 2800 others wounded.
He condemned the Israeli crackdown on the unarmed civilians, who were protesting against the siege imposed on Gaza and the U.S. embassy transfer, as well as demanding their right to return to their homeland and described the Israeli attack as an “appalling crime”.
International and Arab stances on U.S. embassy transfer
Concerning the U.S. embassy transfer, Meshaal said that it was good to see that there were countries that didn’t attend the ceremony. However, the Israeli Occupation isn’t held accountable for breaking the international will.
“We saw some positive stances from the western world regarding their rejection of the embassy move, but they were insuffiecnent in stopping the embassy transfer,” he added.
Popular protests
He stated that the Great March of Return is organized by unarmed people demanding their right to return to their homeland and the siege imposed on Gaza to be broken, as well as protesting at Trump's decisions about Jerusalem.
"Hamas is denounced whether it follows the option of armed resistance to defend the Palestinians' fundamental rights or takes part in a peaceful, popular protest," Meshaal added.
Meshaal hailed the stances of Kuwait, Qatar, and Turkey, which condemned the crimes committed by the Israeli Occupation against the unarmed civilians.
