Saying that Turkey has an education system based on ‘granting diplomas’, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association (ÖĞ-DER), Hamdi Sürücü underlined that compulsory education should be opened up for discussion.
“THE SYSTEM IS NOT SET FOR RAISING THINKING PEOPLE”
Saying that the education system is an imitator, Hamdi Sürücü stated that the system does not have a goal of how raising people and said, "How are we going to raise a person? It is a big problem that we do not have an education system of our own that will guide our people by taking reference from the past. The education system is bankrupt and imitative. System, It is not set up to raise thinking people. Another problem of education in Turkey is that education is currently only adjusted for academic success. More precisely, we provide education based on diploma rather than academic success. We have an education system based on giving diplomas. Those who want to study and those who make an effort go up, while others just get a diploma. Compulsory and co-education is one of the biggest problems, when looking at the last 10 years. They bring students who want to go to school and students who don't want to go, put them in the same classroom and hold them responsible for the same curriculum. In this case, unfortunately, it lowers the average.”
“COMPULSORY EDUCATION MAKES STUDENTS WORRIED”
Pointing out that the number of students who score zero in the exam is increasing every year, Sürücü added, “Compulsory education should be abandoned in order to get rid of these bad results. If it continues like this, the number of students who score zero in the exam will increase. It had never reached 96,000 students until now. Ministry of National Education (MEB), so that the child is not left on the street and places those who want to read and those who do not want to read in the same class. Those who do not want to read also disrupt the order of those who want to read. Then the responsibility falls to the teacher. At the root of the problem is compulsory education plus a teacher who has been rendered dysfunctional and devalued.”
