In these days when the Western mentality imposes the necessity of creating a consumer society, waste is reaching the stage. So that Turkey imported $96.9 million in 5 years for the ornaments and lights of the pines used in celebrating the New Year. According to the compilation made by the AA correspondent from the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the amount of imports for ornaments and lights used in the new year in 2011-2015 period approached 100 million dolars.
Our society, which is desirous of being cut off from its own identity and the past, was "importing" all customs from the West without question. Christmas celebration is one of them ... 97 MILLION DOLLARS TO DECORATION
According to this, the import of electric lighting(used in lighting Christmas trees) and decorations used in new year trees is 23 million 937 thousand dollars in 2011, 20 million 659 thousand dollars in 2012, 16 million 448 thousand dollars in 2013 and 16 million 31 thousand dollars in 2014. Last year, 19 million 909 thousand dollars were spent on lamps and ornaments of new year trees. Thus, the expenditure for 5 years was about 97 million dollars. Exports of over $85 million were imported from China, the rest from Austria, Thailand and Vietnam.
WE THROW THE MONEY UP
In this period, 36 million dollars were spent on fireworks. 35 million dollars of that amount has been paid to China. In the category of "holiday, carnival and other fun stuffs" category, the amount of imports exceeded 59.5 million dollars in 2011-2015 period. The imports of these items were spent 10 million 989 thousand dollars in 2011, 7 million 367 thousand dollars in 2012, 10 million 878 thousand dollars in 2013, 14 million 101 thousand dollars in 2014 and 16 million 104 thousand dollars in 2015. This import was 56 million dollars from China.
