Durmuş, President of Sağlık-Sen Union, speaking about the reports, stated that urgent steps should be taken against violence in health and said, "Every day that is late at the point of finding a solution is a blow to the future of the health system."
Sağlık-Sen Union, which reveals the grave picture of violence in health with the report they prepare every month, shared the results of March with the public. According to the shared results, while there were 19 incidents of violence in March, 38 healthcare workers were exposed to violence. In the report, which draws attention to the fact that those who caused the violence were the patients and their relatives, "While 18 of the 19 violence events experienced during the month were caused by patients and their relatives, 1 was caused by ignorant people. The most painful aspect of violence in health is that the events are carried out by the patients and their relatives. We do not accept this mentality that tries to break the hands that seek healing,” the report said.
“IMMEDIATE STEP SHOULD BE TAKEN”
Sağlık-Sen Union Chairman Semih Durmus, who made an evaluation about the reports, said, “We cannot ignore the problems underlying violence in health. Healthcare workers are overwhelmed by the heavy workload and long shift hours. Healthcare workers, whose burdens have increased with the pandemic, are trying to heal with a superhuman effort. In summary, one of the most important factors that trigger violence in health is the lack of employment. While healthcare workers struggle with these problems, they also become victims of violence. It is no longer possible for this situation to be sustainable. Every day that is late at the point of finding a solution is a blow to the future of the health system.”
