Mustafa Sarıoğlu, Chairman of the Turkish Agriculture, Livestock and Beekeeping Solidarity Federation (TAHAP), stated that they wanted to buy 500 tons of sugar to be given to beekeepers, but they were asked to pay a bribe of 50 TL per sack. Stating that they could not get the sugar because they did not pay the requested bribe, Sarıoğlu noted that there was a great slackness and lack of control in the sugar market.

Due to the wrong policies implemented, Turkey was dragged into a heavy sugar crisis in the last period, and had to import sugar for the first time in 24 years. While the sugar prices of Türkşeker were low (January 1-May 31, 2022), how much sugar it sold to sugar traders was kept hidden from the public, trading companies that bought thousands of tons of sugar at low prices in this period made a big profit in a short time. Between January 1 and May 31, a dark period in sugar went down in history, Mustafa Sarıoğlu, Chairman of the Turkish Agriculture, Livestock and Beekeeping Solidarity Federation (TAHAP), made a shocking claim regarding this period and stated that they were asked for bribes in high-tonnage sugar purchases.

BEEKEEPING REGISTERED TO CONVENTIONAL PRODUCTION BECAUSE MEADOWS ARE NARROWED!

TAHAP Chairman Mustafa Sarıoğlu stated that beekeeping has now shifted to conventional production and the use of sugar has increased due to the narrowing of pasture areas, and stated that sugar is consumed to feed bees, especially in winter. Emphasizing that they faced serious problems in meeting the sugar demand of beekeepers in the past period, Sarıoğlu noted that the 5-6 times increase in sugar prices in a short time also increased the abuses in the sector. Stating that there are serious indications that the sugar purchased from Türkşeker to be given to beekeepers is sold at different prices in the market, Sarıoğlu stated that they find it thought-provoking that no research or examination has been carried out on 6,500 tons of sugar given to the stores.

WE DON'T GET 500 TONS OF SUGAR BECAUSE WE DON'T BRIBE!

Stating that there is a serious lack of control in the sugar market, Sarıoğlu emphasized that they wanted to buy 500 tons of sugar from a private sugar factory in August, but they were faced with a bribe demand. Noting that they were asked for a bribe of 50 TL per sack, Sarıoğlu emphasized that this money was also requested to be deposited into a different account. Explaining that they could not receive the sugar in question because they did not deposit the money demanded as a bribe in a different account, Sarıoğlu stated that it is remarkable that TAHAP, as a non-governmental organization, faced such an event.
