The 500 TL hike in the minimum wage melted away with the hikes made in the new year, before entering worker's pocket. Increases from house rent to bills, food and grocery products have increased the gap in the minimum wage.
The 21 percent increase in the minimum wage, the increase in house rents, bills and food and grocery products in the new year disappeared before the workers even got into the pockets. According to TURKSTAT's December inflation data, the inflation increase between November and December melt the 500 lira hike to the minimum wage.
ONE IN FOUR OF THE HIKE GOES FOR RENT BILLS
The biggest item that melted the hike to the minimum wage was the house rent. TURKSTAT has determined the increase in house rents as 12.28 percent in January. Accordingly, a rent increase of 125 lira will be applied to the average thousand TL house rent. Thus, one fourth of the hike to the minimum wage will go to the increase in house rent. In addition to the house rent, natural gas and electricity will increase the gap in the pocket.
FIRE IN THE KITCHEN WILL GROW
Increase rates on food products will also increase the fire in the kitchen of the minimum wage who lives below the hunger threshold. Tables will be incomplete due to the increase in basic food items such as eggs, onions, flour, pepper and rice.
BABY DIAPERS AND FOOD MONEY MORE THAN MINIMUM WAGE HIKE
Increases in other products will increase the burden of the minimum wage, especially with children. Due to the 3% increase in baby food and diapers, diapers expenditure reaches approximately 250 TL per month, while baby food expenditures reach approximately 500 TL. In other words, the raise that the minimum wage earns for one year is far from meeting the baby's baby's baby's feed and diapers for one month.
