Speaking at the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Karaduman said, “Honorary instructors operating within the Directorate of Religious Affairs (DIB) are appointed by exams, but they are deprived of rights and work for a wage far below the minimum wage. The grievances of honorary teachers should be eliminated, their personal rights should be handed over and their wages should be improved.”

“WILL THERE BE APPOINTMENTS FOR QUR’AN COURSE TEACHERS?”

Karaduman, who also submitted a parliamentary question to the Presidency of the TBMM with the request of Vice President Fuat Oktay to answer, asked Oktay the following questions: "Is there a staff study within the Directorate of Religious Affairs regarding honorary teachers? Do you have any work on improving the wages and working conditions of honorary instructors currently on duty? Will there be a recruitment of Qur’an course instructors to the Presidency of Religious Affairs in 2022?”

“PROBLEMS STILL NOT BE SOLVED”

Pointing out that there is an important need for honorary teachers in Qur'an courses in education and teaching of the Qur'an, Karaduman added, “First of all, they perform an important task in raising generations with moral and spiritual consciousness. Personal rights issues such as staff and wages of honorary instructors, whose number exceeds 25,000, have not been resolved for a long time. It is known that honorary instructors, who have been performing this service for many years in many provinces today, are employed for a wage far below the minimum wage, although they do the same as permanent staff. Although it has been expressed by the Presidency of Religious Affairs at various times, the existing problems are still not resolved.”
