After the interim increase in the minimum wage, the eyes were turned to the increase to be made for teachers and civil servants in July.

In his written statement on the subject, Numan Gökmen, President of the Conscious Teachers Association (ÖĞ-DER), pointed out that the livelihood of the employees has increased due to the increasing cost of living and uncontrollable inflation, and emphasized that the civil servant raise should be at the level of welfare.

“THE CIVIL SERVANTS SHOULD BE GIVEN THE IMPROVEMENT THEY DESERVE”

Emphasizing that with the minimum wage increase, the new minimum wage has reached the lowest civil servant salary, Gökmen said, "We are concerned that the increases will fade over time in the face of the cost of living. For this reason, civil servant salaries should be updated again and the civil servant should be given the increase he deserves. Official figures on inflation do not match real inflation. Those of us in life think that the real inflation is at least 200 percent. The purchasing power of today's teacher's salary is unfortunately much lower than the purchasing power of a teacher's salary 10 years ago. Although it is a positive situation that the lowest civil servant salary will be increased to 22 thousand TL in July, if inflation is not curbed, the increase will quickly melt away."

“TEACHERS SHOULD DO THEIR DUTIES WITH PEACE”

Gökmen said that rent increases and hikes make purchasing power more difficult and that even compulsory needs cannot be met.

"The successive hikes, inflation and excessive rent increases have made the purchasing power of civil servants difficult. Civil servants have become unable to meet even their essential needs. Our teachers and public employees await the hike in July with hope. With the increase to be made, our teachers and public employees should reach a level of welfare where they can do their duties peacefully and lead their lives happily. In addition, the distinction between permanent, contracted and paid teachers in the public sector is an unfair practice. Equal pay should be given to those who do the same work. This injustice must be corrected as soon as possible. At least, a good improvement can be made in the additional tuition fees given to paid teachers," he added.
