Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu paid a high-level visit to Egypt 11 years later.
After the visit, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri in Cairo.
"We need to work more closely for the survival of our region. We will do our best not to sever our ties. We will revive the mechanisms between the two countries," Çavuşoğlu said.

"In order to increase trade, there have been some disconnections in transportation, we want to revive them. We want to maximize our diplomatic relations. On the other hand, we wish to restart our consultations on regional issues. We want to revive our consultation on both bilateral and regional issues on political issues," Minister Çavuşoğlu added.

Çavuşoğlu stated that there are historical ties between Turkey and Egypt, and that the two countries have a common culture.
He said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah es-Sisi showed a will to strengthen the ties of brotherhood between the two countries.
