Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer met with the deans of education faculties recently… The importance of inter-institutional cooperation was highlighted at the meeting… Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer met with the deans of education faculties at the Teachers' Professional Development Education Faculty Deans Evaluation Meeting. Making a statement after the meeting, Education Faculties Deans Council (EFDEK) President Prof. Dr. Selahiddin Öğüldü stated that the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and the faculties of education will cooperate in 4 fields, “they can try to fulfill this demand of the ministry by increasing the number of postgraduate teachers, opening new programs and increasing the existing quotas,” he said. The request to increase the quota in the statement, based on education faculties, caused a reaction as it would cause an increase in the number of teachers waiting for assignment.
THE NUMBER OF TEACHERS WAITING FOR APPOINTMENT CONTINUES TO INCREASE EVERY YEAR
Hundreds of thousands of teacher candidates are trained every year. They continue to graduate from their faculties. In addition to this, the number of teachers waiting for appointment continues to increase every year. It is estimated that about 800 thousand teachers are waiting for appointment, while the teacher shortage in the public sector is tried to be filled with paid teaching. It is stated that while the teachers waiting for appointment demand that the appointment made every year be in a way that will fill the teacher shortage, an increase in the quota to be made in the education faculties will make the number of teachers waiting for appointment unbearable.
QUOTAS MUST BE REDUCED IN FACULTIES OF EDUCATION AND INCREASED FOR MASTER'S DEGREE
Speaking about the statements of Education Faculties Deans Council (EFDEK) President Prof. Dr. Selahiddin Öğülmüş who made a statement about the cooperation between education faculties and the Ministry of National Education, about the increase in the quota, Hamdi Sürücü, Chairman of the Conscious Teachers Association, said, “Any study to increase the student quota of education faculties would be a wrong move. It causes the number of assignment pending teachers to increase rather than decrease. If the quota increase in question is to be realized in relation to graduate education, this will be the right decision. The arrangement made regarding the Career Steps can also benefit many teachers.”
