IHH builds a new home for female students

'Osman Korkmaz' dormitory was opened for female students studying at Damascus University in Azez city of Aleppo, Syria by IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation.

IHH Bursa Branch built a dormitory for female students studying at Damascus University, which became operational in the 2015-2016 academic year in Azez city center. 'Osman Korkmaz' dormitory, which consists of 40 dormitories, 1 multi-purpose hall and 1 administrative room, will be home of 320 female students. Bursa Deputy Osman Mesten, IHH Bursa Branch President Hüseyin Kaptan, Osman Korkmaz and the accompanying delegation, NGO representatives, Azez Local Council President and notables of the region attended the opening of the dormitory. 
 

WE PUT EMPHASIS ON EDUCATION 

 
Making the opening speech after the Quran recitation, IHH Syria Education Coordinator Sebahattin Aydın said, “We came together for a good opening today. Here, our girls will be able to continue their education in a safe environment. Therefore, I would like to thank the people of Bursa who supported this project and all our donors.” Kilis Regional Office Coordinator Tahir Güzelel, who stated that they have been working in many fields as the Syrian war is leaving its 12th year behind, said, “I am very dedicated to education. We care, it makes us extra happy to see our girls studying. Our student brothers and sisters who will build the future of Syria grow from here.” 
 

“OUR NEW HOME IS VERY BEAUTIFUL” 

 
Fatima, who is studying Computer Engineering, said, “We were having serious problems coming to school because our house was so far away. Our new home has been very nice and our conditions are very good. Thank you to everyone who contributed.” Maha Al Tahir, who is studying in the nursing department, said, “My family lives in Idlib. It was very difficult to come to school from there every day. Because the road is not safe and it is very long. It was making me very tired. But we were very relieved with the opening of this dormitory. All our needs are met here.”
 

“INVESTMENT IN EDUCATION IS VERY IMPORTANT, THEY WILL BUILD THE SYRIA OF TOMORROW” 

 
Expressing that they are happy with the opening, Hüseyin Kaptan, Head of IHH Bursa Branch; “Since the day the civil war started in Syria, we have sent thousands of trucks to the region. But we also know very well that education will determine the future of Syria. Investments in education are very important here. Our girls studying at our university will have a say in the future of Syria. I would like to thank the people of Bursa who contributed to this beautiful work, our donors and our teacher Osman.” Bursa Deputy Osman Mesten said, “Our teacher Osman Korkmaz is a valuable brother who has spent his life in education. We are also happy that his name was given to this dormitory in Syria. IHH has established a very nice university here. Students are provided with good opportunities here. These student brothers and sisters will build the Syria and world of tomorrow. IHH is one of the most important NGOs of our country by carrying out humanitarian aid works in many countries since the Bosnian War. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this beautiful work.”
