Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), talked about the importance of the conquest in his speech at the 570th anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul held in Maltepe Orhangazi City Park.
İmamoğlu thanked all citizens who contributed to the emergence of the will of the nation by voting in the elections.
"I am personally saddened by these results, of course. As someone who believed every word he said before the election, I am of course thoughtful and concerned about these results on behalf of my country", İmamoğlu said.
İmamoğlu stated that the nation gave the presidential authority to the candidate of the People's Alliance, and said, "Of course there is no excuse. Yes, that's how the process ended. Congratulations."
“WE HAVE TO BUILD THE WILL FOR CHANGE AGAIN”
"It is obvious that the election results of 28 May were, of course, an unexpected result for us. In this process, we could not fully establish a heartfelt mobilization that would reflect the greatest desire of the society to the ballot boxes. I know that the desire of Turkish society for change is much greater than the result we saw last night. We have to rebuild the will for change in this country from scratch. We must build together with you, dear young people, the struggle of those who want a better life, a more just order, a more prosperous society in this country, and a democracy that works smoothly with its rules and institutions in this country. As the parties and individuals that make up this process, we will of course face this reality. We will find the reasons and develop the solutions together. Let no citizen or anyone have any doubts that we have the determination to fight with this maturity and courage," İmamoğlu added.
