Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop, finally made the 2023 budget presentation of the Presidency of the Assembly at the Plan and Budget Committee.

Inflation also hit the Parliament… A 149 percent increase was made in the budget due to inflation and exchange rate increases.
 
Mustafa Şentop, President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), presented the 2023 budget of the Presidency of the Assembly at the Planning and Budget Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
 
Şentop said that a total of 762 law proposals were submitted to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in the 5th legislative year, 38 of which were related to the approval of international agreements. Thus, the total number of bills submitted to the Presidency during the entire 27th legislative term reached 4,576 as of the end of the 5th legislative year.
 

MOST SUGGESTIONS OF QUESTIONS IN THE HISTORY OF THE PARLIAMENT GIVEN

 
Şentop stated that 83 of the aforementioned law proposals were enacted in the 5th legislative year. Şentop reminded that 31 decisions were taken on various issues in the General Assembly of the Parliament in the last legislative year.
 
"Within the scope of audit activities, which is another very important function of the Parliament in addition to legislation, a total of 19,710 written questions were submitted to the Presidency of the Parliament by our deputies in the 5th legislative year. Thus, the total number of questions submitted in the 27th term exceeded 73,000 and the 27th legislative period became the legislative period in which the most written questions were submitted in the history of the Turkish Grand National Assembly even before the start of the 6th and last legislative year," he said.
 

BUDGET INCREASED 149 PERCENT

 
Şentop stated that there was a 149 percent increase in the budget due to inflation and exchange rate increases, and said, "Our budget proposal for 2023 has increased by 149.3 percent compared to the initial appropriation of 2022, which is 2 billion 198 million 221 thousand TL, and has reached 5 billion 480 million 588 thousand TL. In this context, the difference of 3 billion 282 million 367 thousand TL between the initial appropriation of the 2022 budget and the 2023 budget is summarized; This is due to the increase in personnel and social security expenses, annual inflation and exchange rate increases, as well as the increase in Treasury aids to the Ombudsman Institution and the Radio and Television Supreme Council."
