Inflation of the people reaches 177,5 percent in one year

The October results of the ‘People's Inflation’ survey, which is carried out regularly every month by the R&D unit of the United-Public-Business Confederation (Birleşik-Kamu-İş-Konfederasyonu), were shared with the public. According to the results of the research, while the fever in the citizens' kitchen continues to grow, the ten-month increase in food prices, which increased by 6,3 percent in October compared to the previous month, reached 110,6 percent and the inflation in a year reached 177,5 percent. 
 
October results of the ‘People's Inflation’ research conducted by the United Public Employees' Unions Confederation (Birleşik-Kamu-İş) R&D unit, based on a food basket containing 64 food products that the public consumes the most, the prices of which are compiled regularly every month from the markets, are shared with the public. According to the research, it was stated that while the kitchen fire of the citizen continued, the increase in food prices did not stop. 
 

THE MOST INCREASE IN VEGETABLE PRICES IN OCTOBER 

 
According to the research, for a food basket purchased for 100 Turkish Liras (TL) in October last year, it was stated that it was necessary to pay 277,5 TL in October this year. In October, compared to the previous month, the prices of bread, rice, flour and bulgur increased by 8,5 percent, while the prices of meat and fish group increased by 1,9 percent. While the prices of milk and dairy products and egg group increased by 5,7 percent, there was an increase in oil prices by 0,9 percent. In October, when fruit prices increased by 1,7 percent, vegetable prices increased by 20,2 percent on average compared to the previous month. It was stated that while the prices of pulses increased by 2 percent in October, the prices of other processed foods consisting of tomato paste, olives, honey, tea, salt and similar foodstuffs increased by 6,3 percent. Citizens paid 6,3 percent more in October compared to the previous month in order to purchase a food basket made up of 64 food items selected according to their current food consumption habits. 
 

FOOD PRICES INCREASED 110,6 PERCENT IN 9 MONTHS 

 
It was stated that despite the serious increases in inflation in the first nine months of 2022, especially the increases in food prices brought the inflation rate in food prices to 3-digit figures, it was stated that food inflation was calculated as 110,6 percent in the 9-month period of 2022. In the January-October period, the prices of bread, rice, flour, bulgur and pasta increased by 114,8 percent, while meat and fish prices increased by 59,7 percent, milk, dairy products and egg prices by 74,2 percent, oil prices by 35,7 percent, and fruit prices by 205,2 percent. It was noted that prices of vegetables increased by 256,9 percent, pulses prices increased by 60,5 percent, and the prices of other foodstuffs increased by 111,6 percent. 
 

HIKE CHAMPION IN ONE YEAR: VEGETABLES WITH 389,9 PERCENT 

 
While the annual increase in food prices was also included in the research, it was stated that food prices increased by 177,5 percent compared to October 2021. Between October last year and October this year, It was stated that there was an increase of 184,4 percent in bread, flour, bulgur and pasta prices, 110,8 percent in meat-fish prices, 150,2 percent in milk, dairy products and egg prices. It was stated that oil prices increased by 98,2 percent compared to a year ago, while fruit prices increased by 229,9 percent and vegetable prices by 389,9 percent. It was stated that the prices of pulses increased by 130,9 percent in the last year.
