Inflation rate alarming!

While the rise in inflation that started in November continued in April, it has reached the highest level since May 2019.

According to the Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, inflation increased by 1.68 percent in consumer prices and 4.34 percent in producer prices in April. Annual inflation rose to 17.14 percent in consumer prices and 35.17 percent in producer prices. According to TURKSTAT, annual food inflation was 16.98 percent.

Annual inflation rose to 17.14 percent in consumer prices and 35.17 percent in producer prices. According to TURKSTAT, annual food inflation was 16.98 percent.
 
Turkey Statistical Institute announced April inflation data. While inflation continued its upward trend since November 2020, it also reached its highest level since May 2019. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.68 percent and the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) by 4.34 percent on a monthly basis in April. Annual inflation was 17.14 percent in consumer prices and 35.17 percent in domestic producer prices. According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, considering the 12-month averages as of April, consumer prices increased by 13.70 percent and domestic producer prices by 19.44 percent.
 
HIGHEST INCREASE IN CLOTHING AND SHOES
 
As for the main spending groups, in April, the groups with high monthly increases were clothing and footwear with 7.57 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 2.13 percent and education with 2.09 percent, respectively. While the group with the highest monthly decrease in April was communication with 0.28 percent, the other main group that decreased in April as of the main expenditure groups was recorded as household goods with 0.03 percent.
 
ACCORDING TO TURKSTAT FOOD INFLATION 17 PERCENT
 
The highest increase in CPI on an annual basis was seen in the transportation group with 29.31 percent. Transportation was followed by household goods with 22.27 percent, health with 19.2 percent and food with 16.98 percent. The main groups with low increase compared to April 2020 were the alcoholic beverages and tobacco group with 3.6 percent, communication with 9.05 percent, education with 10.21 percent, and clothing and shoes with 11.03 percent, respectively.
