While food prices increased by 24.92 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, it is seen that the inflation in the market stalls is even higher. While food prices burn the pockets of the citizens even more, they cannot afford the prices of fruits and vegetables despite the season.

Inflation data for July was above expectations and was announced as 18.95 percent. According to the monthly inflation figures of July, which saw the peak of the last 18 years, food prices increased by 24.92 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Although it is seasonal, fruit prices and high vegetable prices show that the inflation in the market is even higher. The market basket of the citizen, who is in a difficult situation in the face of the economic crisis, price hikes, unemployment and inflation, is melting away with each passing month. As the Milli Gazete, we compiled the prices of fruits and vegetables that hurt even in summer, from the labels on the market stalls.

FRUIT PRICES ARE ABOVE SEASONAL NORMALS

The fruit-vegetable prices we compiled from various neighborhood markets in Istanbul once again revealed the burning situation of the inflation champion food products in July. It was noteworthy that the fruit prices were very high, especially despite the season. These days, the price of 1 kilo of cherries is 18 TL, and the price of 1 kilo of cherry is 10 TL in the neighborhood markets. Likewise, the weight of grapes, which is one of the seasonal fruits, is between 10-12 TL. Although we are the first in the world in fig production, the weight of the fig is 15 TL. Strawberry and peach prices are also well above seasonal normals. Accordingly, 1 kilo of strawberries is sold for 15 TL, and 1 kilo of peaches for 10 TL at the market stalls.

VEGETABLE PRICES ALSO BURN CITIZEN'S POCKETS

Vegetable prices, as well as fruit prices, burn people's hands even though we are in the summer months. Although it is the season, 1 kilo of cucumber is sold for 6.5 TL. Green beans, one of the most expensive products on the market stalls, are sold for 16 TL per kilo. The kilogram price of tomatoes, which we do not miss from our tables during the summer months, varies between 4-6 TL. These prices are at least 50 percent higher than the market prices in markets selling fruit and vegetables. While it is wondered when and how the prices of fruits and vegetables, which put market tradesmen and households in a difficult situation, will decrease, the real reason for the high prices is unknown. Because the price increase experienced by the citizens, who are the last consumers, of the products that are sold from the field almost at a loss, is very high…
