According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.25% and the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 1.55% on a monthly basis in September. Annual inflation was 19.58 percent in consumer prices and 43.96 percent in domestic producer prices. Considering the 12-month averages as of September, consumer prices increased by 16.42 percent and domestic producer prices increased by 33.83 percent. CPI increased by 13.04 percent in September compared to December of last year, and D-PPI increased by 30.5 percent compared to December 2020.
EDUCATION EXPENDITURES BURNING POCKETS
In terms of main expenditure groups, in September, the groups with the highest monthly increase were education with 5.15 percent, household goods with 3.33 percent and housing with 2.34 percent, respectively. The only main group that showed a monthly decrease in September was recorded as clothing and shoes with 0.16%. The main groups that showed the least increase were alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.05 percent, communication with 0.47 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 0.50 percent.
In the main expenditure groups in the CPI, the highest annual increase in September was seen in food and non-alcoholic beverages with 28.79 percent. This was followed by household goods with 23.27 percent and restaurants and hotels with 23.27 percent. Compared to September 2020, the main group with the lowest increase was recorded as alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 1.80 percent. The other main groups with a low increase compared to the same month of the previous year were communication with 4.99 percent, clothing and shoes with 7.32 percent, entertainment and culture with 12.45 percent.
HIGHEST RISE CAME FOR COAL IN SEPTEMBER
In terms of consumer prices, the highest price increase in September was seen in coal prices with 33.72 percent. According to TUIK data, coal price increase was followed by curly with 30.46 percent and service fee with 29.52 percent last month. Other products with the highest price increase in September included dormitory fees with 28.3%, private university fees with 24.25 percent, and eggplant with 21.65 percent. Last month, the highest price decrease was in lemon with 29.6 percent. This was followed by cucumber with 26.08 percent, domestic tours for one week or more with 25.63 percent, fish with 15.1 percent and apples with 10.49 percent.
RENT INCREASE RATE 16.42% IN OCTOBER
With the announcement of September inflation figures, the rent increase rate for October, which concerns millions of households, was also announced. According to the data announced by TUIK, consumer prices increased by 1.25 percent on a monthly basis and by 19.58 percent on an annual basis. Compared to the 12-month averages, there was an increase of 16.42 percent. The 12-month average CPI is the determining factor in the increase in rental prices. Accordingly, the rate of increase for citizens who will make a new lease agreement in October will be 16.42 percent. Thus, if the rent of the citizen is increased by 1000 liras, it will increase to 1,164 liras, and the rent of 2 thousand liras to 2,328 liras.
