İbrahim Afyon, President of the Egg Producers Center Union (YUM-BIR), evaluated the Ministry of Commerce's assignment of an inspector regarding the increase in egg prices before the Value Added Tax reduction.
"I support the appointment of inspectors because as a producer, I lose money, I can only give the egg at cost. I am not in a position to sell it at an exorbitant price. Investigators reveal this," Afyon said.
Afyon made an assessment to the Anadolu Agency correspondent regarding the debate on the increase in egg prices.
Afyon stated that there is a negative perception about egg prices in the market and that the industry fell victim to this perception.
"The ministry inspector does not harm us, it benefits us. I support the appointment of inspectors because as a producer, I lose money, I can only give the egg at cost. I am not in a position to sell it at an exorbitant price. Investigators reveal this. It is unfair to make the perception that the industry is making a profit while making losses," Afyon added.
Pointing out that all eggs are thought to be expensive due to some products that mislead the consumer, Afyon continued as follows:
"Although it is not real, there are sales under the name of 'running chicken, organic eggs' and eggs with decorated packaging. There are markets with high profit margins. I see it too, 10 eggs are 22 liras, 25 liras. It is exorbitant to sell 10 eggs for 22 liras or 25 liras. If the organic certification is correct, I say 'okay'. Because the buyer has consent, we respect it, but it is unfair to my industry to show the egg that I can't sell for 1 lira expensive. Our citizens consider even the eggs they buy cheaply to be expensive by making the claim that eggs are expensive."
Afyon stated that the cost of leaving the egg from the producer is around 1 lira-1 lira 15 cents without packaging and shipping, while the average selling price of eggs in the markets is 1 lira and 35 cents at the moment.
“OUR HANDS ARE UNDER THE STONE”
Evaluating the meeting held by the Minister of Treasury and Finance Nureddin Nebati regarding the "Winning Turkey" campaign with the food and retail sector, Afyon said following words:
"As long as our production cost is protected, we will support the campaign until the end. As long as our costs do not increase, we do not expect an increase in price, but we struggle with the cost clamp. I declared this at the meeting. We expect the corn, which is currently in licensed warehouses in the hands of the private sector, to be put on the market with the support of the relevant ministries. We, as producers, stated that we are under the stone, that we have already done something we have done since the past, and that we will continue to do so in the future."
