Locals in the eastern and southeastern provinces of Turkey have been experiencing problems in internet connection since 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 26, amid calls by the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party for people to take to the streets to protest against the recent detention of Diyarbakır’s co-mayors.

The Internet connection through fixed and mobile lines in the provinces of Diyarbakır, Mardin, Batman, Siirt, Van, Elazığ, Tunceli, Gaziantep, Şanlıfurfa, Kilis and Adıyıman have been suffering disruptions, although officials have not made any statements concerning the problem yet.

A similar problem was experienced on Sept. 11 when a panel of trustees were appointed to 28 municipalities in the regions upon a decision by the Interior Ministry.
