Although they worked during the compulsory internship process while studying at vocational high schools, there were approximately 200 thousand victims before 1999, whose active work was not considered as the beginning of retirement because only their health insurance was paid. While the victims wanted to be included in the scope of EYT for the right to retirement, they pointed out that the problem could be solved by counting the internship insurance as a starting point and granting the right to borrow in order to eliminate the victimization. Pointing out that the retirement period of people is delayed between 8 and 10 years due to the grievances experienced, Ferhat Salman, President of the Internship Insurance Victims Association, stated that those who did internships while studying at vocational high schools could not distinguish between short-term and long-term insurance at that age, and said: “These people who are working are suffering greatly. Although the total number of victims is around 200 thousand when considered before 1999, the rest is between 70 and 100 thousand as some of them will benefit from EYT. Besides, making such a regulation will be of interest to the society in general, as it will reveal the perspective and attitude of the lawmaker towards apprentices and interns.”
SOCIAL PROBLEM CAN BE SOLVED TOGETHER
Stating that the solution to the problem can be solved by considering the internship insurance as a start, Salman stated that the victims are waiting for a solution and said, “If the internship starts of the victims of internship and apprenticeship insurance before 1999 are considered as the beginning of the long-term insurance branch and if these people borrow their internship periods, this problem can be easily solved. The start of the internship is taken as the start of the long-term Social Security Institution (SGK), the insurance period is accepted from the age of 18 and this social problem is solved together. For years, we have tried to resolve this grievance. In order to make our voices heard, we will come together with our victims in Ankara on December 11 and make a call.”
