Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's brother was detained on Sunday after failing to meet a bail term on financial crime charges, Iranian news agency said.

According to the Iranian news agency Mizan, the judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejeie said in a weekly press conference that Hossein Fereydoun, who is also an advisor to Rouhani, was jailed and would be released after paying the bail issued.

The judiciary spokesman did not speak about the amount of the fine.

Fereydoun is accused of financial violations on the grounds that he was involved in the payroll case of bank directors and the involvement in the assignment of manager of the Refah Bank.

Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's advisor Hamid Baghaei was also arrested in June 2015 for failing to pay a $15 million fine for "financial crimes" he was involved in during his tenure.
