A senior Islamic State (IS) commander was arrested after he was tracked down by Italian intelligence operatives in Sudan.
Moez Fezzani, who is also known as Abu Nassim, had been convicted in Italy of recruiting terrorists and was linked to terror attacks in Bardo and Sousse, Tunisia Live reported yesterday, describing him as a “veteran commander” of IS and Tunisia’s “most wanted terrorist”.
Fezzani will face terror-related charges in Italy. According to Tunisia Live, Fezzani has a long history of international terrorism and has been linked to the top ranks of terror organizations such as IS, Al-Qaeda, Ansar-al-Sharia and the Taliban.
Fezzani moved to Italy in 1989, where he is believed to have joined an Al-Qaeda affiliated recruiting network. Tunisia Live cited Tunisian authorities as confirming that Fezzani played a large part in plotting attacks in Bardo and Sousse, which killed 61 people in total.
Tunisia Live was unable to get comment from Tunisia’s Ministry of the Interior.
