The burning of the Holy Quran by Salwan Momika of Iraqi origin, who burned the Quran on 28 June in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, in front of the Iraqi embassy in Sweden, under the protection of the police, on July 20, led to an increase in the reactions towards Sweden from the Islamic world.
Turkey was one of the first countries to react harshly to the disrespect towards the Qur'an in Sweden.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "We condemn in the strongest possible terms the vile attack targeting our holy book, the Holy Quran, in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm," it was stated.
After the attack, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a phone call with his Iraqi, Saudi Arabian and Egyptian counterparts and the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Unity Government, Abdulhamid Dibeybe.
During the meetings, the mobilization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the joint measures to be taken regarding the increasing anti-Islam and hate crimes against the religion of Islam in Europe within the framework of the attack on the Qur'an in front of the Iraqi Embassy in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, were discussed.
In this context, Minister Fidan held phone conversations with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Ferhan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also announced that an arrest warrant was issued for Rasmus Paludan, Salwan Momika and 8 other suspects who had previously burned the Quran in Sweden.
The Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK) emphasized that the end of the attacks targeting the Qur'an could only be possible with a stance that will be adopted by all actors of the international community.
IRAQ
In the capital of Iraq, Baghdad, members of the Sadr Movement affiliated to the Shiite religious and political leader Muqtada es-Sadr stormed the Swedish embassy and set some parts of the embassy on fire.
In the statement made by the Iraqi government, it was stated that if the actions against the Qur'an continue, it will resort to cutting relations with Sweden.
The Baghdad administration asked the Swedish Ambassador Jessica Svardstrom to leave the country, and withdrew the charge d'affaires of the Swedish Embassy in Iraq.
The Iraqi Communications and Information Agency has also decided to cancel the license of Ericsson company due to the attacks on the Holy Quran.
The Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) announced that its representative office in Stockholm had ceased its activities after the attacks on the Quran in Sweden.
In the statement made by the Foreign Relations Department of the KRG, it was stated that "We strongly condemn the second disrespect to the holy Quran in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden."
PAKISTAN
Pakistan condemned the attack on the Holy Quran in the strongest terms.
Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "Islamophobic contempt for the Holy Quran in Sweden is strongly condemned", while the disturbing repetition of such Islamophobic incidents that hurt the feelings of over 2 billion Muslims worldwide is legally and morally abominable.
ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC COOPERATION
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the provocative act in a statement and expressed its deep disappointment that the Swedish authorities continued to allow such acts despite the grave consequences of this "despicable act".
SAUDI ARABIA
In a written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, the attack on the holy book was described as "irresponsible" and the Swedish authorities were condemned for allowing a repeat of provocative acts that provoked the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
"Necessary measures must be taken to stop shameful acts that violate all religious values and international laws," the statement said.
In addition, the Ministry, in a protest note given to Sweden's Charge d'Affaires in Riyadh, asked the Swedish authorities to "take the necessary measures to stop these shameful acts that violate all religious teachings, international laws and norms".
QATAR
Qatar gave a protest note to Sweden in response to the permission to attack the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
According to a written statement from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sweden's Ambassador to Doha, Gautam Bhattacharyya, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give a protest note, after the attacks on the Qur'an and the holy places of Islam continued.
It was stated that the protest note included a demand that "Swedish authorities take the necessary steps to stop these shameful practices".
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) summoned Sweden's Abu Dhabi chargé d'affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protest the Swedish government's permission to attack the Quran in the capital, Stockholm.
EGYPT
Written statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
That the attack on the Holy Quran is an obvious challenge that goes beyond the limits of freedom of expression and provokes the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
Al-Azhar institution in Egypt also called on Muslims to boycott Swedish products in response to the attack on the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
In the statement made by the institution, the following statements were made:
"Allowing these terrorist criminals to burn the Holy Quran means committing crimes against Islam as well as other religions and people. The attacks against the Qur'an are a stain on the foreheads of these communities, which prove that they are far from true freedom and respect for religions. Azhar invites all free people of the world to continue boycotting Swedish products in support of the Holy Quran."
AZERBAIJAN
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The ministry's social media account called on the Swedish authorities to take action against criminals and prevent such hate crimes.
IRAN
In a statement made by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was noted that the Swedish ambassador to Tehran was summoned to the ministry.
It was conveyed to the Swedish ambassador, that Iran strongly condemns the repeated actions against the Qur'an and the Islamic holy scriptures and blames the Swedish government entirely for the consequences of provoking Muslims.
Thousands of Muslims protested the attacks on the holy book in the demonstrations held in many cities in the country after the Friday prayer yesterday.
JORDAN
In a written statement made by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the attack on the Quran was condemned.
In the statement, it was also stated that Sweden's Amman charge d'affaires were summoned to the ministry and a strong letter of protest was given to the Swedish diplomat to be forwarded to the Swedish government for allowing the attack on the Holy Quran in Stockholm.
OMAN
In a statement made by the Oman Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Swedish authorities condemned the repeated permission and protection of extremists for "burning the Quran and disrespecting it".
LEBANON
In a statement made by the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a call was made to Sweden "to take the necessary measures to put an end to all kinds of steps that could deepen Islamophobia and hatred and disrespect religions".
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah demanded that Lebanon's ambassador to Stockholm be withdrawn and Sweden's ambassador to Beirut to be sent to his country due to the repetition of attacks on the Quran.
Anti-Swedish protests were held in many cities of Lebanon yesterday and it was stated that Swedish Ambassador to Beirut Ann Dismorr left the country for a planned vacation.
LIBYA
In a statement made by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attack on the Holy Quran was condemned and the Swedish government refused to allow such attacks.
YEMEN
The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the repeated attack on the Holy Quran in Sweden.
Protests were also held in the cities of Sana'a and Hudeidah, which are controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthis, against attacks on the holy book.
KUWAIT
In a statement that it strongly condemned the attack on the holy book, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs used the following statements:
"Kuwait is in consultation and coordination with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and brotherly Arab and Islamic countries to call the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for an emergency meeting in order to take concrete and practical steps to prevent the repetition of such unacceptable acts."
BAHRAIN
Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the attack and called for legal measures to be taken against acts that spread intolerance and extremism.
ARAB UNION
The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu Gayt, condemned the attack and stated that Sweden's permitting such provocative acts does not fall within the scope of freedom of thought and expression, and that mixing these concepts fuels extremism and violence.
PALESTINE
In the statement made by the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that the attack on the Quran is an expression of hatred and racism.
"This despicable act is in complete contradiction with freedom of expression," it was stated.
HAMAS Political Bureau Member Izzat al-Rishq condemned the attack on the holy book and stressed that such "vile attacks" abuse freedom of expression.
