Lailat al-Barat, the herald of Ramadan, will be realized this evening. Lailat al-Barat coincides with the 15th night of the month of Sha'ban, the second of the three months starting on February 2.

According to Islam, “barat” means purification from sins, purification, divine forgiveness and mercy.

It is stated that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said the following regarding Lailat al-Barat:

"Spend the 15th night of Shaban in worship and fast during the day. Because Almighty Allah manifests His mercy to the heavens of the world tonight and says, 'Is there any one who repents, let me accept his repentance. Is there anyone who wants sustenance, let me give sustenance. Is there anyone who wants healing, let me heal. Is there any other request, let me give him what he wants' He says."

"LET'S KEEP FASTING AND GO WITH WORSHIP"

Mehmet Kapukaya, Specialist of the Religious Affairs High Council of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that acquittal means "innocence" and "document of salvation" in the Qur'an, and salvation from sins in the hadiths.

Expressing that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) recommended to spend the night of Barat with worship and to fast during the day, Kapukaya said that the sins of the Muslims would be forgiven on the night of Barat.

Reminding that Allah wants His servants to pray and get closer to Him on the night of Barat, Kapukaya said, "Barat night is a night of mercy and forgiveness."
