An Israeli court on Tuesday called for the “conditional release” of jailed Palestinian resistance icon Raed Salah, according to the latter’s lawyer.

“The Magistrates Court preliminarily approved Salah’s conditional release until trial proceedings [against Salah] have concluded,” lawyer Khaled Zbarqa told Anadolu Agency.

Conditions for his client’s release, the lawyer explained, would likely be announced next Monday at an upcoming court session.

“These conditions could include a ban on entering Salah’s hometown of Umm al-Fahm,” Zbarqa said.

“Or the court might demand additional restrictions on his movement,” he added.

Last summer, Israeli police arrested Salah in Umm al-Fahm -- a Palestinian town in northern Israel -- before convicting him of “inciting violence” and throwing him into solitary confinement.

In February, Israel’s Central Court in the southern city of Beersheba slapped the prominent resistance icon with a further six months in isolation.

Israel outlawed Salah’s Islamic Movement in 2015 for allegedly engaging in “anti-Israel activities”.
