The maritime border negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, which started last October and were suspended in November, are expected to resume in the coming days. However, in the negotiations this time, Tel Aviv will sit on the table to take the entire Mediterranean.
Israel has rolled up its sleeves to expand in the Mediterranean. While the maritime border negotiations, which were initiated with Lebanon last year but were suspended, are expected to be resumed in the coming days, Israel will sit at the table with a greater appetite this time. The Tel Aviv administration will increase the demand for 860 square kilometers of sea area, which causes a problem between the two countries and some of them are under their occupation, to 2 thousand 290 square kilometers.
BIDEN TO BE THE MEDIATOR
In October last year, Lebanon and Israel sat at the negotiating table for the first time on the maritime border in the Mediterranean, but the negotiations were suspended in November due to the lack of agreement on mutual maps. Six months after the initial negotiations under the mediation of the US Foreign Affairs, the two countries will come to the table once again, this time under the mediation of US President Joe Biden.
MAP HAS BEEN PREPARED
Having an eye on the Mediterranean, Israel also mapped out its intention to invade. The map, which is also featured in the Israeli media, reveals Tel Aviv's dream of becoming the only power in the Mediterranean. On the map prepared, the sea areas of Lebanon, which are legally entitled and where gas works are currently being carried out, are also confiscated. Thus, Israel wants to increase not only the security area in the Mediterranean, but also the economic income area.
DISPUTE CONTINUES IN 860 KM AREA
The first spark of the sea border dispute between Lebanon and Israel started when the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus signed a separate sea border agreement with Lebanon in 2007 and Israel in 2010. Regarding the conflict, which covers a sea area of 860 square kilometers, both countries deserve that this area is within their own continental shelf.
