Istanbul Mayors security increased due to assassination threat

Claims of an assassination attempt against Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu have raised confusion, with police and the municipality releasing contradicting statements.

urkish media on Dec. 1 reported that ISIS' assassination attempt against İmamoğlu, who is from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) was thwarted and the militants who were preparing for the attack were apprehended.
 
The claims were met with shock on social media, prompting police to refute the reports.
 
When asked whether such a threat against İmamoğlu existed and was thwarted, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu gave an obscure response.

The Turkish Police dismissed claims about a plan led by the Daesh terrorist group to assassinate Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu.
 
In a statement, the General Directorate of Security ruled out any such attempt against the mayor, dismissing recent claims by some media outlets.
 
The statement noted that similar speculations and warnings are made about state officials and politicians on a regular basis and that the relevant individuals are informed and the necessary precautions are taken.
