In the judicial regulation of the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu government, which has occupied the agenda in Israel for 9 months, all eyes are on the Supreme Court, which is preparing to discuss the law restricting the powers of the judiciary.

Today, the Israeli Supreme Court will discuss the "plausibility" law, which was approved in July in the parliamentary session boycotted by the entire opposition within the scope of judicial regulation in the shadow of mass protests and intense public debate.

The law strips the Supreme Court of its power to overturn government decisions on the grounds that they "do not serve the public interest, are not reasonable, or create a conflict of interest."

The article, which is among the basic elements of the Netanyahu government's judiciary package, aims to "reduce the control of the judiciary over the executive." There is no constitution yet in Israel.

The country's 13 "Basic Laws" are considered drafts of the future constitution. The Supreme Court can annul the laws passed by the parliament on the grounds that they are contrary to fundamental laws.

The government states that the laws approved within the scope of judicial regulation bring changes to the basic laws.

Pointing out that the Supreme Court has not intervened in the changes made in the basic laws so far, the government argues that the court cannot annul the basic law changes approved in the judicial regulation package.

Opponents of the judicial regulation, who applied to the Supreme Court for the annulment of the law, evaluate that with the law in question, "the system has been changed, Israel's democratic structure has been dealt a blow, and therefore the regulation cannot be exempt from judicial review by being accepted by the absolute majority in the parliament."

It is commented that if the Supreme Court annuls the law and the government objects to it, the crisis in the country will move to a constitutional level.
