Despite the arrest of those who carried out the February 28 coup, the grievances of the victims who are still in prison are heartbreaking.

In the process that started with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issuing an arrest warrant for 14 people whose life sentences were finalized in the February 28 trial, the defendants, including retired generals Çevik Bir and Çetin Doğan, were detained and sent to prison.

Although the decisions regarding the February 28 case caused joy in the society, the fact that the victims of February 28 were still in prisons caused sadness that justice could not be fully provided.

While it is known that hundreds of people who were imprisoned during the 28 February process and have not been able to regain their freedom until today, continue their lives in prison, the injustice in question must be eliminated as soon as possible.

In this context, it is demanded that the prisoners who were victims of February 28 be retrial. The victims of February 28, who spoke to the Milli Gazete on the subject, also express the necessity of the situation in question.

Mehmet Eşin, Deputy Chairman of HUDA PAR and writer of Doğruhaber Newspaper, who was among the victims of February 28, made a statement to the Milli Gazete regarding the developments within the scope of February 28 cases.

Eşin, who said that it is valuable to prevent the repetition of the practices of the 28 February process, which is a black stain in the history of Turkey, and to achieve a result, albeit partially, to prevent the persecution from being unrequited. He noted that the grievances of those who are oppressed and discriminated against are still not resolved.

Mehmet Eşin, "The government should remove all grievances as soon as possible with a comprehensive and permanent arrangement rather than partial and temporary improvements. At the same time, the elements that try to put pressure on politics and society by revealing not only the military dimension of the multi-faceted coup, but also the media, economy and political dimension should also be prosecuted. A new coup attempt should never be allowed by the dark circles that try to design the political institution and society according to their own ideologies," he said.

“VICTIMS SHOULD BE TRIED AGAIN”

Speaking to our newspaper, the victim of February 28, Mehmet Eşin, stated that the victims, who were brought to trial with the label of 'terror' and fabricated excuses due to their Islamic belief, life and services, and who were put in dungeons with heavy sentences, should be tried again. Mehmet Eşin stated that if even one of the February 28 grievances continues, the process will not be completely over.

"It is a duty and responsibility on the government and the opposition, as well as the entire political establishment and 85 million people of the country, to replace the 1982 Constitution, which was the product of the coup, with a completely new and civilian constitution in order to end the February 28 process completely and to prevent new coups," Eşin added.

“THE POLITICAL WILL THAT WILL SOLVE THIS ISSUE”

Mehmet Şahin, Honorary President of Fatih Akıncılar Association, one of the victims of February 28, also made evaluations to our newspaper about the situation of the victims of February 28 prisoner.

Noting that the February 28 process was an extraordinary process, Şahin said that many people were unlawfully detained, tortured and imprisoned.

Şahin stated that the law was trampled on on February 28 and the Islamic community was put under pressure.

"If those responsible for the February 28 coup are on trial, the victims of this group should also be taken into account. If those who carried out the February 28 coup committed a crime, why are the people they victimized still in prison? In particular, I would like to draw attention to the victims of the Sivas case and the Umut case. Victims do not want forgiveness. What we want is a retrial of the victims of unlawful trials. I think that all of these people will be acquitted if they are tried by free courts, not by those who submit to impositions, as on February 28," Şahin said.
