The governor of the state, Muhammed Adan Khalif, who visited Turkey due to the drought in Mandera province, stated that the drought had reached serious dimensions and stated that he visited Turkey to request urgent humanitarian aid.
"WE NEED URGENT HELP"
Kenya's Mandera province has been going through tough times in recent years due to drought. Provincial Governor Muhammed Adan Khalif held a meeting with the International Youth Forum (IYFO) within the scope of collecting emergency aid due to the drought disaster. Referring to the drought disaster in his state at the meeting, Khalif said, “Due to the consecutive rains in the Mandera region for about 4 years, the drought continues very seriously. People are dying due to drought. Livestock farming, which is the livelihood of the region, was seriously affected. 80 percent of the animals perished. That's why we need serious help. That's why we visited Turkey. By arranging meetings with charities, we are consulting to resolve the this situation.”
WE WANT SUPPORT FROM AID ORGANIZATIONS IN TURKEY
Stating that he had meetings with many aid organizations, Khalif stated that they also met with IYFO in this context, and said that they conveyed their urgent aid requests. Khalif said, “We convey our demands to aid organizations in Turkey. These include food aid for breastfeeding women. We are requesting nutrition packages support for children and feed for animal husbandry, our livelihood. We had an important meeting with IYFO today. We will continue our talks tomorrow.”
Sharing his views after the meeting, IYFO Chairman Yılmaz Balçın said: “Due to the drought disaster in Kenya, we will do our best to meet with our partner organizations to carry out the necessary aid activities.”
