A significant portion of the fires that broke out in the last ten years in Turkey were fires that broke out in more than 500 points in a few cities, especially in Antalya and Muğla, and lasted for 15 days. The highest loss of forest area was also last year with 139,503 hectares. This year, the fire, which started in the Marmaris district of Muğla, has been going on for 4 days at intervals. While the Turkish Air Association (THK) planes that were kept in the hangar last year and the measures that could not be taken were among the most discussed issues, the continuation of the same discussions in the intervening year caused the comments that 'lessons were not learned from the past'.

THE MEASURES THAT WERE NOT TAKEN LAST YEAR WERE NOT TAKEN THIS YEAR

The forest fire disaster that took place in Turkey last year is unfortunately happening this year as well. The forest fire, which started on the evening of June 21 in Muğla's Marmaris district for an unknown reason, could not be brought under control for 4 days. Last year, 139,503 hectares of land were ashes in fires that broke out in more than 500 points, especially in Antalya and Muğla, and lasted for 15 days. The fact that the measures that could not be taken last year were not taken this year made one say to give up.

5,000 HECTARES OF LAND DISAPPEARED IN 4 DAYS

After the fires in Marmaris could not be brought under control for 4 days, public reactions started to come. Citizens are asking why no measures were taken last year, especially on firefighting planes and the lack of forest workers. While approximately 140,000 hectares of forest area was turned into ashes due to the measures not taken last year, this year the 4-day balance sheet reached 5,000 hectares. Citizens are worried that these fires, which are only at the beginning of summer, will increase until the end of summer and express that measures should be taken as soon as possible.
