Low-income group undernourished in Turkey

According to Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions' (Türk-İş) Hunger and Poverty Line Research, the hunger limit in July became 2,903 liras, an increase of 497 liras compared to the previous year.

According to Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions' (Türk-İş) Hunger and Poverty Line Research, in July, the hunger limit was 2,903 liras with an increase of 497 liras compared to the previous year, while the poverty line was 1,618 liras plus 9,457 liras compared to the previous year. Food inflation in the last 12 months reached 20.65 percent.
 
The July results of the monthly hunger and poverty line figures prepared by Türk-İş revealed the state of the economy and the threat of inflation. While the poverty line was based on 10,000 TL, the 12-month kitchen inflation rose to 20 percent. According to the figures shared by the Confederation, the hunger limit increased to 2,903 TL and the poverty line to 9,457 TL. The monthly living cost of a single employee was recorded as 3,546 liras. Considering the data for July of last year, the dimensions of the increase in the hunger and poverty line were also revealed. While the hunger limit was 2,407 liras in July of last year, it increased by 500 liras this year. The poverty line, on the other hand, increased from 7,839 lira to 9,457 lira with an increase of almost 2,000 liras.
 

ANNUAL FOOD INFLATION EXCEEDED 20 PERCENT

 
According to the report of Türk-İş, the minimum amount of food expenditure for a family of four living in Ankara has increased by 1.35 percent compared to the previous month, while the increase in the first seven months of 2021 is 12.10 percent, and the food consumption in the last 12 months is 12.10 percent. Inflation was 20.65 percent.
 
Türk-İş stated that according to the results of the research, the income of low-income families does not meet an adequate and balanced diet.
 
"Families often choose low-priced foodstuffs over high-priced foodstuffs. The low and insufficient level of income causes low-income individuals and families to have an unhealthy and unbalanced diet," it was stated.
