Tunisian President Kays Said dissolved the parliament with a political coup on July 25, 2021, dismissed the government, changed the constitution and established a new political system based on the one-man regime. While Tunisia under the rule of Kays Said, who usurped power in the country, witnessed a severe political crisis accompanied by the economic crisis, French President Emmanuel Macron triggered a new chaos in the country with his statements at the Francophone Summit held in Tunisia recently. The Tunisian En Nahda Movement and the National Salvation Front reacted harshly to the statements that Macron supported the Kays Said regime.

MACRON'S WORDS DISORDERED TUNISIA

President of France, Emmanuel Macron, had said at the Francophone Summit held on Djerba Island in Tunisia, “As President of France, I want to say to Tunisian President Kays Said, I am here to accompany the transformation Tunisia is going through.” These words of Macron are interpreted as open support for the putschist actions of President Kays Said that usurped the political will of the Tunisian people.

HARD REACTION FROM EN NAHDA

En-Nahda, one of the biggest political parties in Tunisia, which was the biggest victim of the Kays Said coup, issued a refusal against Emmanuel Macron's statements. “Macron's statements are hostile and contrary to the values of our nation. Expressing that he supports the coup and the autocratic administration in Tunisia, we invite French President Macron to respect the aspirations of the Tunisian people, the revolution of freedom and dignity, and their national achievements,” the statement said.

“THE HOSTILE ATTITUDE AGAINST THE PEOPLE OF TUNISIA”

The National Salvation Front, an opposition political bloc, also reacted to Macron's statements. “We reject Emmanuel Macron's words, these statements are an insult to the Tunisian people. Macron has openly supported the 'roadmap' resulting from the July 25, 2021 coup. The Tunisian President continues to conduct smear campaigns, arrests and trials against its opponentsis by relying on oppressive and deprived of the freedom laws he enacted and by using the military judiciary. Macron's statements confirm his full support for Kays Said's autocratic and unilateral project. This attitude is a hostile attitude towards the Tunisian people,” the statement of the National Salvation Front said.
