The 14th General Assembly of the Hizmet-İş Union was held in Ankara Kızılcahamam with the theme of “Global Power of Labour”. At the General Assembly, Chairman Mahmut Arslan was re-elected, reassuring confidence. Arslan thanked the delegates and members after the results. Making a statement after the results of the General Assembly, Arslan stated that they will start an organization mobilization in the new period and said, “We will focus more on areas where there is no organization in our line of business. We will fight to make domestic workers and those working in private cleaning companies unionized. We will continue our life, which will last for centuries, with this decency and polish, and we will never compromise on this. We will not stay away from loyalty, fidelity, decency and discipline even for a moment. Without getting stuck on a stone, without stepping on the trash, without falling into a pit, We will continue on our way together.”

“OUR STRUGGLE IN SUBCONTRACTOR AND MANDATORY PENSION WILL CONTINUE”

Stating that the struggle regarding subcontracted employees in the public sector is not over, Arslan stated that they will continue to work to end the grievances experienced with compulsory retirement, and said, “We will continue to fight with the same determination, perseverance and faith in order to ensure receiving an additional payment of 52 days in municipal companies, abolishing the compulsory pension arrangement for our members under the Decree Law No. 696, giving staff to the temporary seasonal workers, the implementation of public framework protocols for municipalities and companies, granting appointmen, payment and similar rights, to solve staffing problems, and to realize all these demands. It is time to completely throw away the subcontractor system, which continues, albeit partially, in the public sector. From now on, the problems of our line of business, as they have been up to now, we will solve them.”

“WE REQUEST A GREAT TAX REFORM TO BE MADE”

Pointing out that the current structure of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission is unfair, Arslan called for the tax regulation not to be forgotten during the determination of the minimum wage, and said, “While determining the minimum wage, the worker should be evaluated with his family. Considering the fact that the minimum wage is the lowest wage applied in our country, we should take steps in this direction. We must ensure that the minimum wage is an exceptional wage, as in Europe Union (EU) countries. While determining the minimum wage for 2022, it has been a very important step not to collect taxes on all wages equal to the minimum wage. The efforts of our confederation in this process cannot be denied. We expect our government to take more effective steps for a rooted and fair tax system. We expect regulations that will reduce the tax burden of the working class. We want employee income tax rates to be fixed at 10 percent until the crisis is over. At the end of the crisis, we demand a fundamental, fair and equitable tax reform.”
