"We are expanding and activating our already existing information centre. We will transparently announce the results of every ballot box," Republican People's Party candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu said.
İmamoğlu became the mayor of Istanbul by narrowly winning the March 31 local election against the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) candidate. However, he faces a rerun of the Istanbul vote on June 23 following an appeal by the AKP and its far-right allies.
"AA will not be the only source of news for people," the CHP candidate said.
In the decisive hours of the election night, the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) stopped publishing voting results when Imamoğlu was only a few thousand votes behind his AKP opponent. The agency, which is the major source of election data in the country, didn't update its Istanbul data for 13 hours without giving any explanations for the interruption of the data flow.
