The instability in the economy was also reflected in marriage rates in Turkey. As the economic crisis deepens, young people who avoid the costs of marriage are increasingly moving away from marriage.

When all expenses are calculated, the average cost of a marriage in our country in 2024 reached up to 600,000 TL.

The impact of the bad state of the economy on marriage was also reflected in the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) data.

According to TURKSTAT data, the number of couples getting married decreased from 575,891 in 2022 to 565,435 in 2023.

On the other hand, the age of first marriage is gradually increasing in Turkey. Accordingly, the average age at first marriage in Turkey in 2023 was determined as 28.3 for men and 25.7 for women.

Considering all these data, it seems that the economic crisis also affected marriage rates...

MINIMUM INVOICE OF A MARRIAGE IS 600,000 TL

Exorbitant price increases in almost every sector in Turkey also affected the costs of couples who will establish a new home.

According to calculations, the average cost of a marriage, including white goods, dowry, gold, furniture, wedding and all other expenses, under maximum conditions, reaches 600,000 TL.

According to these calculations, the cost of an average marriage in 2024 is 935,000 TL. Young people who grow up with all these costs and expenses prefer not to marry rather than marry and pay debts.

While it is unknown how long the effects of the economic crisis, which has dealt a heavy blow to the institution of marriage, will last, the job of young people who dream of a home becomes more difficult with each passing year. On the other hand, the addition of rent, bills, kitchen shopping and similar expenses to the wedding expenses increases the concerns of young people who will start a new home.

TURKSTAT DATA SHOWS THE EFFECT OF THE ECONOMY ON MARRIAGE RATES

TURKSTAT's 2023 marriage statistics reveal the impact of the economic crisis on young people who will start a family.

So much so that the number of couples getting married decreased from 575,891 in 2022 to 565,435 in 2023.

Young people who are afraid of marriage cannot find any other solution other than postponing marriage due to the costs.

According to this result, reflected in TURKSTAT data, the age at first marriage in Turkey has risen to the peak of 22 years.

In our country, the age at first marriage will increase to 28.3 for men and 25.7 for women in 2023.

The crude marriage rate, which reveals the number of marriages per thousand population, was determined as 6.63 per thousand in 2023.
