Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), made a statement regarding the restructuring of the region in Hatay, an earthquake zone.
Speaking at the meeting at the İBB Hatay Disaster Coordination Center, İmamoğlu stated that they have been carrying out the mechanism in which approximately 4,500 personnel are involved in the region so far.
"We will have a busy weekend, and we will have emergency action plans and mobilization statements that we will share with Istanbulites in full shift next week," Imamoglu said.
“WE HAVE 575 CONSTRUCTION MACHINES IN THE REGION”
Referring to the work they have done in the region as a municipality, İmamoğlu said, "In the first place, we coordinate the contributions of over 130 municipalities. We will continue to manage the process, especially by identifying the new needs and the support in these processes, as well as their functions and problems in the field in a permanent and sustainable way. We had a busy work machine in our region. As of now, we have 575 work machines. Of course, with the equipment declared by other provincial and district municipalities, this number actually rises to 1,780. I just mentioned the intense car recovery activities. Search and rescue teams, who carried out those valuable works for which we are truly grateful, saved hundreds, even thousands of lives, in 10 provinces. The heart wanted to save everyone, but unfortunately we lost our lives. As of now, tent is a major problem. Therefore, we will make an intense effort to meet the tent needs with cooperation. We have either distributed or set up nearly 4,500 tents so far, or we will continue to distribute them in our warehouse. I would like to express that the number of tents has reached almost 16 thousand, especially with all our municipalities. We also carry out container installations. We put nearly 100 containers into service in our region."
“WE WILL HAVE OUR MOBILIZATION EXPLANATIONS”
"Again, on infrastructure, İSKİ is making an intense effort, and İGDAŞ is making an intense effort. Again, let me state that nearly 100 of our health personnel are working effectively in the field. Our funeral services continue. We have 22 officers. Again, together with our 10 veterinarians, we are actively contributing to street creatures in the field. Again, we have a special point, our Orhangazi and Osmangazi ferries. One of them is still working on the shipment. It transported the first 1,200 people to Istanbul. As Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, we put forth an intense effort here on behalf of the people of Istanbul. We have immigration problems ahead of us. We will talk about these separately. We have problems with education before us. We will talk about these separately. There is the expulsion of our young people from the university. We strongly oppose this. We definitely want this wrong to be reversed and we insist. All these agendas will continue. We will also talk about Istanbul. We will have a busy weekend, and we will have emergency action plans and mobilization statements that we will share with Istanbulites in full shift next week. These processes are carried out in the organization of our state institutions, primarily AFAD and other ministries and their coordination," Imamoglu added.
