Alzheimer, which is defined as ‘dementia’ among the people and is one of the types of dementia, is defined as a disease that develops over time due to the death of brain cells. Experts often remind that Alzheimer, which causes a decrease in the cognitive functions of the person, is the most common disease that causes dementia today. Experts, who make periodic explanations and warnings about the definition and symptoms of Alzheimer, state that it is of great importance to take notes and make lists in the conduct of daily activities in order to cope with forgetfulness, which is among the main symptoms of Alzheimer. Talking about ways to cope with forgetfulness within the scope of combating Alzheimer, Neurology Specialist Prof. Dr. Yaşar Kütükçü made important statements.

TAKE NOTE AND MAKE LISTS

Making some suggestions within the scope of combating forgetfulness, which is one of the main symptoms of Alzheimer, Prof. Dr. Kütükçü said, “Make a note of your daily work, plans and appointments. When going shopping make a list. Write down important phone numbers, save them. If you forget how to do something, write down the priority sequence. If you constantly forget where you put your things, be careful to always put them in the same place. Pay attention to the person you are talking to, try to focus. If possible, have these conversations in a quiet environment.”

“ADVANCED AGE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RISK FACTOR”

Stating that advanced age is an important risk factor for the disease, Kütükçü said, “The most important risk factor is advanced age. The incidence increases significantly with age. The disease, which causes simple forgetfulness in the initial period, gradually erases the experiences of the recent past when it progresses. The initial stage of the disease may not be noticed by the person himself or his immediate surroundings.”

Stating that the loss of cells in Alzheimer occurs much faster and more than expected with the advancing age, “Mild severe forgetfulness, which is among the symptoms of Alzheimer in the initial period, leads to unconsciousness over time. Forgetfulness, which is among the symptoms of Alzheimer disease, is mild in the initial stage of the disease, but over time it brings the person to a point where he cannot perform even simple actions such as chatting,” Prof. Dr. Yaşar Kütükçü added.
