In the panel held at the university conference hall, Mustafa Kurdaş, Editor-in-Chief of the Milli Gazete daily, Mehmet Emin Agar, Siyami Akyel, Dr. Ali Abken, Dr. Naif Özkul talked about the late Eygi Hodja.
Moderator of the panel Mustafa Kurdaş gave the opening speech of panel.
"Today we are here to remember and understand Mehmed Şevket Eygi and to remember the traces of his life again. I would like to express my special thanks to the Bezmialem University Youth and Ethics Club for the first time, as it has been over the months that Mehmed Şevki Eygi passed away. Today we will not talk to any literary, thinker or writer. When we consider Mehmed Şevket Eygi in all its aspects, we will have the opportunity to listen to his personality from his close friends and people who have been encouraged. There are so many people that they live, they are born and they die. There are such people that they are born, live, leave their mark, leave the sky under the dome and die. There are so many people that they are born, live, leave marks, leave the sky under the dome, but continue to live. Here we remember Mehmed Şevket Eygi who spent a lifetime of charity," he said.
“TO UNDERSTAND EYGI FOUR WAYS MUST BE FOLLOWED”
Journalist-writer Siyami Akyel, "I came to Istanbul with the dream of meeting two people while studying high school. One of them was Ali Nar Hodja, and the other was Mehmed Şevket Eygi Hodja. In order to understand the master of Mehmed Şevket Eygi, it is necessary to examine four aspects. The first was the religious aspect of the master, the second was the cultural aspect, the third was the journalistic aspect, and the fourth was the struggle against communism, Sabetayism, imperialism, and Freemasonry. When we evaluate Mehmed Şevket Eygi Hodja from these four aspects, we will tell him exactly about Eygi Hodja. Mehmed Şevket Eygi's views of the master, especially in terms of religion, are clearly seen in his struggle against the reformists. In particular, he was a very important person who struggled against sectarianism and religious isolation. Another feature was his harsh criticism of interreligious dialogue. He was a person who emphasized that this work was sedition when no one brought up or even talked about it," he said.
“HE WAS A ROLE MODEL”
Dr. Mehmet Emin Agar who spent more than 40 years with Eygi hodja, "I met my brother Şevket while he was studying at the faculty of literature between 1978-79. The first things that the late Şevket brother taught us were to show sensitivity to the issues of the Turkish and Islamic Ummah and the people of the Sunnah. It was the book of Chemistry of Imam al-Ghazali which he gave to me as his first reading book. Apart from these, everyone had readings according to their abilities. My relationship with Sevket brother started in this way and continued until his death. Şevket big brother, a good Muslim, a good person, a good family member, moral, humble, never screaming and raised his voice was a model person," he said.
Dr. Ali Akben who is Eygi's doctor for many years, "Şevket big brother is the person who guided our development and directed to complementary medicine. Brother Şevket has always committed us upon convincing that healing is strictly from Allah. In other words, we learned that we should start the profession by teaching the patients the name of Shafi'i and teaching that the healing is from God Almighty. I served him for 11 years," he said.
