In the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Istanbul No. II Renewal Areas Cultural Heritage Preservation Board, reached by the Milli Gazete.
"Since the remnant located in Istanbul Province, Fatih District, Derviş Ali Mahallesi, block 2607, parcel 1, has the qualifications specified in Article 6 of the Law No. 2683 on the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets, it is required to be registered as a cultural property to be protected, to be determined as the 2nd group of the conservation group, to be registered in the land registry. THE MOSQUE PROMISED "TO OPEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR"
The Kariye Mosque, which had been announced one day before its opening, whose carpets were hastily removed, and whose pulpit was dismantled, was put under restoration again.
We asked the General Manager of Foundations, Burhan Ersoy, about the latest developments regarding the Kariye Mosque, which was handed over to the Diyanet with the Presidential decree and which was decided by the Council of State that "the mosque cannot be used outside of its primary function", and we were informed that the mosque would be opened at the end of 2021.
Ersoy, who made a statement to our newspaper on the subject, noted that the tender was held within the scope of the mosque restoration and that the works were continuing. Ersoy, in his statement, said that they plan to open the Kariye Mosque towards the end of the year.
