Millions of retirees say that an increase in the level of 6-month inflation figures, which is expected to reach 40 percent, will be "not a raise", but an "inflation gap" that is required by law.

Retirees demand the fulfillment of the promise of Vedat Bilgin, the Minister of Labor, and especially President Erdoğan who recently said, “We will protect our pensioners and employees, no matter what the inflation figures come out”.

14 million retirees, 5 million public employees and contractors are waiting for the inflation figures to be announced this morning. Although improvements are made to some retired civil servants with 3600 additional indicators, the grievances of retired workers are increasing day by day.

RETIREES ARE WAITING FOR THE INFLATION DIFFERENCE

In accordance with the collective agreement, the inflation difference is calculated in 6-month increments.

While inflation was 25.47 percent in the second six-month period of 2021, a total of 30.95 percent improvement was made in the salaries and wages of public servants and civil servants, effective from January 2022, with the increase and additional hike due to inflation.

Social Insurance Institution (SSK) and Insuranced Self-employed Institution (Bağ-Kur) retirees will also receive an increase in their salaries at the rate of inflation for the first 6 months of this year. Inflation figures will be released this morning.

THE NUMBER THAT WOULD AFFECT THE SALARY SURPRISINGLY COME UP LOW LAST MONTH

The Turkish Statistical Institute will announce the inflation data for June at 10:00 today.

According to the inflation data announced by TURKSTAT, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is the basis for civil servants' salaries, increased by 2.98 percent in May, contrary to almost all expectations, while consumer prices increased by 35.64 percent in the January-May period.

Thus, in the 5-month period, while the 7.5 percent increase in salaries was exceeded, an inflation difference emerged.

Civil servants, who received a 7.5 percent increase in the first half of the year due to the collective agreement, will also receive an inflation difference within the scope of the June CPI rate. According to the collective agreement, civil servants will be given a 7 percent raise in July for the second half of the year.
