The workers and the government, who sat at the same table yesterday for an interim increase in the minimum wage, came to a standoff at the union's general assembly.

Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, who attended the 20th General Assembly of the "Koop-İş" Union, and Ergün Atalay, President of the "Türk-İş" Confederation, clashed over the issue of minimum wage and the hunger limit.

ATALAY: “NOT A NUMBER TO BE HAPPY WITH”

Atalay stated that there is no wage to be played for the 5,500 TL determined for the minimum wage.

"Unfortunately, we have come to such a point that while the minimum wage was around 15 percent 15 years ago, today we have found 30s and 35s. The minimum wage is no longer the wage to set the lowest wage, it has become a living wage. I wouldn't say 'it was great' for the determined fee. Hunger and poverty figures are obvious. It's just a manageable figure under current conditions," he said.

BİLGİN: “THE UNIONS' EVALUATION OF HUNGER AND POVERTY IS FAR FROM SCIENTIFIC AND REALITY”

In his speech, Minister Bilgin objected to the criticism that the new minimum wage figure was below the hunger limit.

Evaluating the researches of the unions on the hunger and poverty line as far from being scientific and reality, Bilgin said, "They get prices from 15-20 markets and measure the hunger limit and inflation with it. Unions want to have data in the face of the economic events that occur. They want to put pressure on the public."
